Using LoneBuddy

Terms & Conditions

Last updated: 29 September 2026

Important safety notice.

LoneBuddy is a supplementary personal-safety tool for individuals. It is not an emergency service, does not contact emergency services directly, and does not replace professional emergency response, employer lone-worker systems, workplace risk assessments, employer procedures or your own judgement. In the UK call 999 or 112 in an emergency; elsewhere use the emergency number for your location.

1. About LoneBuddy

LoneBuddy™ is operated from Scotland, United Kingdom. It provides personal-safety features including timed check-ins, Buddy alerts, SOS tools, low-battery safety alerts and optional Premium features. It is intended primarily for individual personal use, including by people who may happen to be working alone. It is not sold as an employer monitoring, workforce-management or regulatory-compliance service.

2. Countries and availability

LoneBuddy may be offered through Google Play in the UK and selected international markets. Availability, features, subscriptions, prices and third-party services can differ by country, device or platform. Availability in a country does not mean LoneBuddy is an emergency service or a substitute for local safety arrangements.

3. Eligibility and device requirements

You are responsible for using a compatible device and maintaining the permissions, battery, cellular service, SMS capability, location services and device settings required for the features you choose to use. You must use LoneBuddy in accordance with applicable law where you are located.

4. Alerts are not guaranteed

SMS and location functions depend on factors outside LoneBuddy's control, including device state, operating-system restrictions, signal, network availability, roaming arrangements, recipient details, carrier delivery, GPS accuracy and battery level. An alert may be delayed, fail, or contain unavailable or inaccurate location information. International SMS or roaming charges may apply depending on your mobile plan and location.

5. Buddies

You are responsible for selecting suitable Buddy contacts, keeping their details accurate and making sure they understand what receiving a LoneBuddy alert means. A Buddy is not an emergency service and has no contractual duty to respond. You should have permission to use a person's contact details as your Buddy where required by applicable law.

6. Free and Premium

The Free plan currently includes 1 Buddy contact, a 30-minute check-in timer, SOS, missed check-in alerts, low-battery safety alerts and safety logs. Premium currently adds up to 10 Buddies, custom check-ins up to 24 hours, additional safety profiles, 15-minute location updates during active alerts, Fake Call and other Premium tools. Features may evolve over time.

7. Active alerts and subscription changes

A paywall or subscription status change will not intentionally interrupt an alert or safety session that is already active. If a Premium entitlement ends while an active safety event is running, that event is intended to continue to completion. Premium access restrictions apply after the active alert or safety session has ended.

8. Subscriptions, pricing and billing

UK indicative pricing may be shown on this website in pounds sterling. For any purchase, the Google Play purchase screen is authoritative for the price, currency, applicable taxes, billing period and renewal terms offered in your country. Premium subscriptions are managed through Google Play. Cancellation and refund rights are subject to Google Play's processes and any mandatory rights that apply where you live.

9. Acceptable use

Do not use LoneBuddy unlawfully, to harass, threaten or deceive others, to send knowingly false emergency-style alerts, to infringe another person's privacy, or in a way that interferes with the app, website, networks or other users.

10. Safety-critical decisions

Do not rely on LoneBuddy as your only means of obtaining help. If there is immediate danger or a medical, fire, police or other emergency, contact the appropriate emergency service directly when you can. In the UK call 999 or 112. Outside the UK, use the emergency number applicable where you are located.

11. Availability and changes

We may update, add, remove or modify features for security, reliability, legal, platform or product-development reasons. We cannot promise uninterrupted or error-free availability, including while travelling internationally or roaming. We will not intentionally apply a paywall in a way that stops an already-active alert or safety session.

12. Third-party services

LoneBuddy relies on or interacts with third-party services such as Android, Google Play, mobile networks, SMS carriers, mapping/location services and your device manufacturer. Their availability and terms are outside LoneBuddy's control and may vary by country.

13. Liability, user responsibility and costs

LoneBuddy is a supplementary safety tool, not a guarantee of safety, rescue, response or successful message delivery. You remain responsible for your own decisions, actions, device, contacts and use of the app. To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, LoneBuddy is not responsible for loss, damage, expense, cost, injury or death arising from or connected with user error, misuse, improper or unlawful use, failure to follow warnings or instructions, inaccurate or outdated Buddy details, a Buddy's acts or omissions, or reliance on LoneBuddy as the sole means of obtaining help.

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, LoneBuddy is also not responsible for loss, damage, expense or cost caused by circumstances outside our reasonable control, including mobile-network or SMS failure or delay, lack of signal, roaming restrictions, carrier filtering, network outages, GPS or mapping inaccuracies, device or battery failure, operating-system restrictions, permission or settings changes, third-party service failures, delayed or unavailable location information, or a recipient's failure or inability to receive, read or act on an alert.

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, LoneBuddy is not responsible for failures, interruptions, inaccuracies or delays resulting from software errors or bugs, maintenance, updates, device incompatibility, operating-system behaviour, or inaccurate, incomplete or delayed information supplied by a device, network, location service or other third party.

Where permitted by applicable law, LoneBuddy will not be liable for indirect, consequential or special losses, loss of profit, loss of business, loss of opportunity, loss of anticipated savings, loss of data, or other economic loss that was not a reasonably foreseeable consequence of a breach by LoneBuddy.

Network and third-party charges are your responsibility. You are responsible for any SMS, mobile-data, roaming, carrier, internet, device, third-party or other charges incurred through your use of LoneBuddy, including charges resulting from repeated alerts, international use, incorrect settings, user error or misuse, except to the extent applicable law requires otherwise. LoneBuddy does not control the charges imposed by your network operator or other third parties.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited. In particular, we do not exclude or restrict liability for death or personal injury to the extent caused by our negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any mandatory statutory consumer right. This means the exclusions above do not apply where, and to the extent that, applicable law makes LoneBuddy legally responsible.

Subject to those protections, and to the extent permitted by applicable law, for losses that can lawfully be limited, our total aggregate liability arising out of or in connection with LoneBuddy is limited to the greater of £100 (or the local-currency equivalent) or the total amount you paid for LoneBuddy Premium in the 12 months immediately before the event giving rise to the claim. This cap does not apply where applicable law does not permit liability to be limited.

14. Consumer rights

Nothing in these terms removes or reduces mandatory consumer rights that apply to you. UK consumers retain their rights under applicable UK consumer law. If you live outside the UK, mandatory consumer protections in your country may also apply. If any term is found unenforceable or unfair, the remaining terms continue to apply to the extent permitted by law.

15. Governing law and disputes

Because LoneBuddy is operated from Scotland, these terms are governed by Scots law to the extent that a choice of law is permitted. However, if you are a consumer, this choice does not deprive you of mandatory protections provided by the law of the country where you habitually live where those protections apply. Nothing in these terms is intended to prevent a consumer from using any court or dispute-resolution right that cannot lawfully be excluded.

16. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms to reflect changes to LoneBuddy, international availability, third-party services or legal requirements. The date above identifies the current version. Where required, material changes will be communicated before they take effect.
